Somatic Therapy

Feel at home in your body

Somatic therapy is a nervous-system informed approach that uses attention, movement, relational alchemy, and your innate resources to bring unconscious memories into conscious awareness. This approach helps establish new foundations to rework trauma-based unconscious behavioral responses and rebuild with safety and self-awareness.

Somatics are essentially the language of the body. When we are in tune with our bodies we are able to rid our bodies of past traumatic experiences, heal relational trauma, painful childhood memories, or feelings of unworthiness from systems of oppression, diet culture, and societal pressures.

We can feel powerful in our bodies, connect to our joys, desires, sexuality, and wholeness.

Some Areas Somatic Work Supports:

Attachment & Developmental trauma

Complex Post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD)

Healing from sexual trauma or abuse

Nervous system dysregulation

Sexual identity and exploration

Preparing and integrating psychedelic experiences

Dismantling body image biases and thought patterns

How is it different than traditional talk therapy?

Somatic therapy is great for individuals who have been frustrated with traditional talk therapy in the past. Many people are able to develop skills and an intellectual understanding of their experience but still struggle with something they can’t quite put their finger on such as a pattern or reaction. Somatic therapy is considered a bottoms-up approach which means we can explore the experience with curiosity without the traditional use of talk therapy.

While there will be some talking, our sessions will be an exploration of embodied experience and sensations, exploring thoughts, impulses, and desires. It’s noticing a change in posture or movement following a story and working to regulate that before feelings intensify.

Clients often find they are able to develop a deep insight into their bodies’ wisdom and learn to trust themselves in a new way with loving-kindness and compassion. This work looks different for every individual it is always client-led, consent based, and built on a foundation of trust.
